Promoting Counter Narcotics Initiative in Regional Countries

AKS staff have been involved in the initiation of the first Afghan Dialogue on Countering Narcotics with regional partners such as Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. This programme was funded by UNODC and has been successful. The main focus of this programme was to establish a triangular initiative between neighbouring countries, to cover:
• Enhanced regional cooperation and coordination to address transnational drug-related crimes
• Selected law enforcement training institutions coordinate their curricula and programmes
• Coordination of border management initiatives among the countries in the region
• Increased use of forensic evidence in investigating and prosecuting cross border crimes
• Increased cross-border cooperation in criminal cases
• Cross-border illicit money flows identified and acted upon
